When housebreaking your dog, you should take your dog out the same door and to the same area each time. Even better, teach your dog to scratch at this door when he needs to go out. This will make your future cleanups quicker and easier.
Try to take your dog outside to do his business at the same time each day. Like many humans, they feel most comfortable with a routine to follow. Once outside, the words “Hurry up” speed up the process and teach the dog to associate the words “Hurry up” with doing his business. Check out the pet crates at The Canine and Feline Store.
Unless you catch your dog in the act of making a mess, do not scold him. Rubbing your dog’s nose in a puddle of pee after the act does not teach your dog not to pee in the house, but rather serves to confuse him.
If you catch your dog making a mess in the house, grab his collar and say “No!” in a stern voice and then lead him to the ourside area where you a training him to go to the bathroom. When he does his business, praise him to reinforce the process.
