wildthingcarriers275bn.jpgCleaning your dog’s ears is an essential part of grooming. Be on the lookout for wax, fungus, and ear mites on them. First, always make sure to use the right cleaning products. Bear in mind that the outer and inner parts of your dog’s ears are very delicate. It is advisable to use an “ear wash solution” specifically created for dog ear cleaning. Soak a cotton ball in the formula and squeeze out excess liquid. Then, place the wet cotton ball in your dog’s ears, starting at the base, and gently rub it.Gently message the outsides of the ears for about a minute where you put the cotton ball. This will help the solutions to get down in the ear. Allow your dog to shake off excess moisture. Never use a q-tip in your dog’s ears for it could damage his eardrum! Try to check your dog’s ears at least once a week. If you dog’s ears are dirty and infected, he may suffer from an ear hematoma by breaking blood vessels when shaking his head due to irritation and discomfort. If your dog is near or on the water, try some water safety products. If you see any lumps in his ear or if his ear canal looks abnormal, better consult a veterinarian. It could be a sign of more serious ear infections or tumors.

With so many dog products on the market, it is often quite difficult to tell which ones are better than others. Make sure that the adult dog food you are feeding is 22-25% protein and 15-19% fat. The protein should come from a good quality source. Make sure to discuss this with your veterinarian to ensure proper feeding of your dog. See also dog bowls.

When you look at a food label, the following are the kinds of ingredients that you are looking for: Chicken meal, Turkey meal, Fish meal, Rice, Potatoes, Lamb meal, Potatoes, Rice, Sunflower Oil, Vegetables and others. Good dog foods should consist of things like meat and proteins. The important thing is to read the label, do your research, ask questions of your veterinarians and pet professionals and always be informed. The average dog sleeps 14-16 hours per day. Wouldn’t you want to sleep in comfort if you slept that long?

Improve your dog’s quality of life with a dog bed suitable for your particular dog. For example, a cushiony firm, supportive bed for older, arthritic dogs will relieve pressure on their aching joints.

What size and type of bed do I need for my dog? How does your dog prefer to sleep? Curled up in a ball? Stretched out in both directions? A bit of both? The dog’s age and health are factors to consider. If he curls up to sleep, add 7 inches to each length and width measurement. He may prefer a round or oval bed with lots of cushion. If stretched out, add 12 inches to ensure a big enough bed. A rectangular or matress type bed might be most suitable. There are outdoor matresses, heated and unheated.

Avoid vinyl covers. The bed shold be washable with a removable washable cover.

Training collar

Obedience training is one of the most important aspects of dog ownership.  In order to keep you, your loved ones, and your dog safe, you must have control of your pet.  Additionally, training your pet well will allow him to accompany you to more places, which always makes your dog happy!  To train effectively, you must assert yourself as the “alpha dog”, or pack leader, and your dog will follow obediently.  Begin today with a special dog training collar.

When puppies teethe, they enjoy chewing because it soothes their sore, tender gums. This can result in some damage in your household to various objects.

The best remedy for this behavior is chew toys. It also helps to confine your puppy as much as possible to small area in the house. Firmly say “no” when he chews on something he shouldn’t and place his chew toy in front of him. Always praise your puppy when he chooses his toy over your possessions.

Nipping is quite common among puppies. Seemingly harmless, puppies need to be taught, beginning at eight weeks, to never touch your skin with his teeth. Redirect his urges to soft, plush and brightly colored toys.

If he starts to nip as you play, say “ouch” and stop the playtime for 10 seconds. If he does it again, leave the room for a moment. He will soon learn that nipping ends his playtime. This should stop the habit so that he can continue to enjoy playing with you. Select an appropriate dog toy: dog toys
