When puppies teethe, they enjoy chewing because it soothes their sore, tender gums. This can result in some damage in your household to various objects.
The best remedy for this behavior is chew toys. It also helps to confine your puppy as much as possible to small area in the house. Firmly say “no” when he chews on something he shouldn’t and place his chew toy in front of him. Always praise your puppy when he chooses his toy over your possessions.
Nipping is quite common among puppies. Seemingly harmless, puppies need to be taught, beginning at eight weeks, to never touch your skin with his teeth. Redirect his urges to soft, plush and brightly colored toys.
If he starts to nip as you play, say “ouch” and stop the playtime for 10 seconds. If he does it again, leave the room for a moment. He will soon learn that nipping ends his playtime. You, of course, want to give lots of love to your puppy. But keep in mind that if you don’t train him now, his behavior problems will grow with him. It’s been getting colder out there lately. Sometimes I think twice about going out because the temperature is just freezing. I hate having to leave my dog home along when I do my errands.
